Sony and Microsoft reportedly want ads in free-to-play games

After Microsoft, Sony also plans to include ads in its free games on PlayStation consoles. The company’s free games have about 172 titles, including VR experiences, and they may add more titles to the free games later.

Sony’s free games include some great Battle Royale titles and even bonus editions of some big hits like Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil Revelations 2, and Life Is Strange 1 and 2 for its PS4 and PS5 consoles.

After taking over PS5, Japanese tech giant Sony now wants to encourage developers to keep creating these games with new revenue opportunities through in-game advertising.

Sony will soon introduce in-game ads in free PlayStation games

As previously reported, Microsoft is planning the same ad system for its free Xbox games. However, our sources said that Microsoft itself would not keep a percentage of the ad revenue generated.

At this point, Sony has yet to reveal whether or not it will take a portion of its ad revenue. But as a report says, Sony is doing this to encourage more developers to continue creating these games, so maybe they can also make the same step in terms of revenue.

There is no clue on how ad tech managment will place these ads. However, Sony is currently running ads within the game men; they can also place ads on digitally generated billboards or in-game skins and find other ways to do not disturb.

In conclusion, the console companies want to convert free-to-play players into subscribers, or else they want to provide benefits to developers, which is beneficial for both. Additionally, Microsoft expanded its Game Pass services to five countries, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
